EVENT GUIDE
RULES
· Links to virtual rooms shall be provided for the entirety of the event on the DebSoc blog
https://upesdebatingsociety.blogspot.com/ .
· There will be two types of registrations:
1. Team registrations – Consisting of teams of three where they, by virtue
of registration will also be registered as adjudicators.
2. Individual registrations – Consisting of individuals that will be
adjudicators.
· All teams will choose a creative team name by which they will be
identified for the purpose of the entire league when they register.
· The league will start with an adjudicator’s test held by the core adjudicator
through which they will receive either ‘trainee’, ‘panellist’ or ‘chair’
status, and they will be elevated from ‘trainee’ to ‘panellist’ and then to
‘chair’ as per the tabulation of scores by DebSoc.
·
Each team will have to go through
five rounds of debate, with every participant appearing for five debates as a
speaker and for five debates as an adjudicator. Information for the debate will
be mentioned in the roster, which will be updated daily, accessible on the DebSoc
blog
https://upesdebatingsociety.blogspot.com/ .
· Standard rules of Asian Parliamentary Debate will be followed, where in
one room, two teams will face each other with three members in each with an odd
number of adjudicators.
Each speaker would get 6+1 minutes to give their constructive speeches. ‘Chair’
and ‘Panellist’ adjudicators would get 3+1 minutes while ‘Trainee’ adjudicators
would get 2+1 minutes for their feedbacks.
· All participants must download adjudicator feedback forms as well as the speaker score sheets from the links given below, which should be duly filled and sent to the league’s official mail ID:
upesdebatingpremierleague@gmail.com .
Failing to send this within 10 minutes of the debate getting over will affect
the scores for the round as well as their overall team ranks.
· Once registered, an individual or a team cannot back out from the
leagues, for which the penalty shall be a ban of up to one year, at the
discretion of DebSoc.
· Any objections to the schedule have to be communicated to DebSoc on its official mail ID:
upes.cols.pd@gmail.com at least one week prior to the date of the debate, for which necessary
arrangements can be made.
· The planning committee will assure that no rules are violated, including insulting, heckling or misbehaving with a fellow participant. Any complaints from the participants about the debate or another participant will be heard by the planning committee and appropriate action will be taken which may go up to the degree of banning the concerned participant/s from further debates.
