DebSoc Blacklist Policy

The Blacklist policy from The Debating Society, School of Law, UPES, is our way of maintaining discipline in members and participants by way of punitive action against students violating our policies.

There are several violations that can lead to blacklisting, subject to the core committee's discretion at the very end of the procedure, including, but not limited to:

1. Participation in Nationals without the clear consent of the concerned authorities in DebSoc.

2. Backing out of a competition (including Novice, Intra and Nationals) as a participant or a volunteer without clearing it with DebSoc first.

3. Indecent (characterised as insensitive or inapproriate) or laid back (characterised as uninterested or slacking) behaviour on the part of an OC member, participant or volunteer.

These violations can lead to an action against a student where a panel consisting of the higher-authority members of the committee will decide whether the student can participate in future competitions or not.

Being Blacklisted will mean that the student will be barred from participating in any event organised by DebSoc for a year and will also not be able to participate outside the university in any capacity which can involve DebSoc for any period of time deemed fit by DebSoc.

If a student has been put in the defaulters list, they can appeal against the action ONLY through a hearing, by following these steps:

1. Write a mail to the official DebSoc ID: upes.cols.pd@gmail.com with the subject as "Appeal for a hearing against the blacklist - DebSoc".

2. In the mail, mention your name, SAP ID, batch and contact number before explaining the details of your case and your justification for the actions taken by you.

3. Attach any proof that can help in proving your case to the mail, and send it before 11 PM on the day of the issuance of the blacklist.

Any student, found participating in any events coming under the ambit of DebSoc even after these violations and being blacklisted can and will be found in violation of Article 47 of the Constitution of DEBSOC, and shall invite the penalty for the same, that is, they "shall be banned from participating in any Intra or National level competition for the remaining tenure in the college".
